We had an amazing time soaking up the sun (and braving the snow!) during our residential trip to the gorgeous Peak District over the first weekend in January. The adventure began with a mid-length, delightfully muddy walk (a sad moment for all the Converse), where we greeted sheep and horses - in Spanish, of course, since that’s clearly their preferred language.
Our downtime was packed with crafts and games, from bracelet-making and Jenga to colouring sessions. The highlight of Saturday was an intense game of dodgeball: young people versus youth workers. Let’s just say that the young people thoroughly enjoyed hurling balls at us - probably a bit too much! Despite our competitive spirit and effort, we faced defeat not once, but twice.
Saturday evening brought a live karaoke session featuring a Sabrina Carpenter takeover from some of the young people, capped off with an unforgettable group performance of Bohemian Rhapsody by the entire residential crew. We nailed all eight octaves, of course.
As my first residential trip with SAYiT, I had an absolute blast. It was heartwarming to see the young people build new friendships, grow in confidence, and start the mornings with lots of energy and bowls of chocolate hoops. I can’t wait for the next trip - where we are absolutely determined to take the dodgeball crown.
