Who we need
We are seeking a skilled and capable Chair to lead our team of Trustees. With our current Chair soon to retire, we need someone who can ensure the Board runs effectively and holds the charity accountable.
The new Chair should have a strong understanding of governance and previous experience as a Trustee, ideally as chair. Experience in the charity sector is crucial, as the role involves working closely with the CEO and the wider charity team on a regular basis. Additionally, non-executive governance experience is essential to provide strategic oversight and ensure robust decision-making processes.
While our current Board has a range of lived experiences, which is always valuable, it is not essential for this vacancy. We envision a Chair who can effectively listen to and harness the lived experiences of all current trustees. It is important that the incoming Chair understands the current challenges facing LGBTQ+ young people and has a passion for the goals of our charity.
The current board of trustees has a wide range of skills and abilities, and a new chair is required to ensure the board acts effectively.
We are therefore looking for someone with:
Experience of chairing.
A good understanding of governance.
Integrity and a willingness to devote the necessary time and effort to their duties as a Trustee.
A commitment to the charity and its objectives and an understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship.
Strategic vision and an ability to think creatively.
Good, independent judgement with a willingness to speak their mind.
An ability to work effectively as a member of a team and hold team members to account.
Additional Skills
Leadership Skills: Proven ability to lead and inspire a team, with experience in governance and strategic planning.
Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of articulating vision and strategy clearly.
Integrity: High ethical standards and a commitment to transparency and accountability.
Decision-Making: Strong decision-making abilities, with a track record of making informed and effective choices.
Financial Acumen: Understanding of financial management and budgeting, with the ability to oversee financial health.
Interpersonal Skills: Ability to build strong relationships with trustees, staff, and stakeholders.
Commitment: Dedication to the organization's mission and values, with a willingness to invest time and effort.
Problem-Solving: Creative and analytical thinking skills to address challenges and find solutions.
Experience: Previous experience in non-executive governance
Resilience: Ability to handle pressure and navigate complex situations with composure and confidence.
