Actions for World Mental Health Day

In the spirit of getting ready for World Mental Health Day on October 10th, we asked our young people what advice they'd give to other LGBTQ+ young people and allies about mental health and taking action. Alongside a wonderful drawing of Bob the GOAT, they shared some really helpful tips.

For allies of the LGBTQ+ community, our young people suggest you "go to pride events" and, of course, "donate to SAYiT". They also emphasised the importance of "talking to queer people" and, most importantly, "listening to them" - which incorporates avoiding "asking invasive questions".

For other LGBTQ+ young people, they want to remind you that "there are other queer people" out there, and you're definitely not alone. They also encourage you to never "...settle for less" and to "just get out there and do things..." - a special reminder to take small steps at your own pace and explore what makes you happy.

And finally, their parting words - which, for legal reasons, is a joke - "be gay, do crimes". You can always count on them for their humour!

How can we all work together to support the mental health of LGBTQ+ young people and create a more understanding community for everyone?
