We’ve been reflecting on our Fruitbowl sessions in the final quarter of 2019 and our time with Changing Faces really stood out.
Changing Faces, a charity that works with young people who have visible differences, ran a wonderful session for our Fruitbowl group in October.
SAYiT Youth Worker Sophie has written some glowing feedback on the session:
In October, SAYiT had the exciting opportunity to work with the bubbly, enthusiastic, and passionate team from Changing Faces. Having external groups come in to run our weekly sessions is always a risk due to not knowing whether the young people will be engaged or feel their weekly safe space had been taken over. This anxiety was quickly removed thanks to Sam and Jules’ sensitivity and openness to understanding the needs and vulnerabilities of LGBT+ young people, as well as their excitement and organisation in planning the workshop.
Their workshop centered around self-love and self-acceptance with the young people learning about Changing Faces but also doing art and crafts and then a relaxation session lead my Jules herself.
All of our young people joined in the whole session and took their positivity jars and decorated tiles home. As well as one person saying “that’s the most relaxed I’ve ever been”. It was obvious that the session helped them love themselves, support eachother and have some quality relaxation time, which I’m sure will have some improvements on their mental health. We were so impressed with how much they all enjoyed the relaxation session we’ve decided to try run some ourselves!
Changing faces ethos and professionalism was amazing and their workshop was so successful we have invited them back to hopefully do an annual session with us every year!
Thanks again Sam and Jules!
